Is it potty time?
So you got a new puppy!?!?! YAY!!! But… you don’t want him/her peeing on the floor, in their bed or anywhere other than outside right? Of course!
Let’s start with this tip from our Pup-Tip card (included in your starter kit) and expand from there.
Pup Tip #2: Potty Training
TAKE your puppy out every 30 minutes. You may not want to, but you need to. Even during the night. I know… this doesn’t sound fun, but it will not be like this furever. I promise.
Say “GO POTTY” each time you go outside so they pick up on the words and tone of your voice. This will help encourage them the next time you take him/her out.
Reward your baby with a treat each time they “go” so they relate going potty to getting a treat. Again, you won’t have to do the treats for potty furever either. But it’s a great training tool.
When we first brought Rylee home, someone shared a helpful trick with me about knowing when to take my puppy out to go potty.
Did you know… your puppy can hold its bladder for one hour per month of age? So if you’re puppy is 3 months old, it can hold its bladder for about 3 hours, and so on.
THIS WAS A LIFESAVER! I know it may not seem like it, but when you are potty training and maybe you can’t get home from work soon enough, or you need to be gone longer than 2-3 hours… we feel guilty and worry. So this is a great tip I share.
