I think most everyone knows that cats are independent. Right? They do their own thing, their way, when they want, and how they want. But what about bonding with you?

Let’s take a look at our Kit Tip #4 (included in your starter kit) and see what we can find.

Kit Tip #4: Bond with your kitty

• Nap with your kitty… hold it while your watching TV. Just “be” with kitty.

• Handling and playing with your kitten a few times a day will help your furry friend form a strong emotional bond with you.

• Although it may seem counter intuitive to leave your new kitten alone when you are trying to bond with them, they do still need their space. Just keep it safe space.

• After the first day or two when your kitty starts to feel more comfortable give them a chance to explore your house. Just keep an eye on them so they don’t get lost, trapped, or scared. They’ll start coming to you.

• Once your new kitty gets comfortable with your touch, start to gently pet them. You will likely get their motor running (purring).

• Once your cat feels comfortable, you should start playing with them. And I have toys in my kit that kitty will love.

• Got food and treats - win-win! A great way to bond with your new feline friend is through food and treats. Not too much - but in moderation.

Now… I have another personal tip that I learned from my mom when bringing home a new kitty. Put butter on their paws. I know. Sounds weird! But by doing so, your kitty will lick their paws removing the old scent they came from and pick up the new scent. This makes kitty more comfortable even easier.

Ok, so let me tell you a little about our Pirate Bear kitty cat. He is like his corgi brother Rylee. He has certain things he “requires” of us. One is treats immediately upon entering the house - right to the kitchen to sit in front of the cabinet until someone gives him his 2 treats. The other is hunting for a lap. This comes right after he gets 2 treats, goes to his food dish to graze, then BAM! He’s right there waiting for his space where my coffee cup is likely residing for the moment. As annoying as it can be sometimes, he’s 14 years old in May and I wanna love on him for as long as I am able.

In short, when you get your new kitty, try the butter trick! They love it, keeps them busy and makes them more comfortable as you guide them around your home so they know they are safe… and loved. =)
